Pittsburgh Festival Opera’s education and training programs provide aspiring singers with exceptional opportunities to develop their artistry, refine their skills, and explore the world of opera at every stage of their journey. From talented high school students taking their first steps toward a career in the performing arts to emerging artists preparing for the professional stage, participants receive expert instruction, individualized coaching, and meaningful performance experiences alongside accomplished musicians and industry professionals.

Emerging Artist Level

The Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin Next Generation Artist Program is a tuition-free summer experience designed to cultivate the next generation of opera singers. This program offers emerging singers unparalleled performance opportunities, coaching, and comprehensive professional training.
Each summer, Pittsburgh Festival Opera will select an exceptional group of young artist from around the world to take part in an intensive five-week residency. Participants will collaborate with distinguished faculty as they prepare, refine, and ultimately perform an Italian concert opera with a full orchestra.
Guided by an outstanding roster of renowned musicians and industry professionals, artist receive world-class training and coaching in a supportive and inspiring environment. This program fosters meaningful connections that can open doors and help launch successful careers in opera.
High School Level

Pittsburgh Festival Opera proudly selects a talented group of high school students from across Western Pennsylvania to take part in a dynamic training program designed to inspire and develop the next generation of performers. Throughout the year, students receive expert guidance from Pittsburgh Festival Opera’s professional staff as they prepare a diverse repertoire spanning operatic scenes, arias, and choruses.
Participants showcase their growth in two featured performances—one in the fall/winter and one in the spring—presented in collaboration with Pittsburgh Youth Concert Orchestra, Pittsburgh Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, and Junior Mendelssohn Choir. These special concerts highlight the remarkable artistry of rising classical musicians in a fully youth-driven production.
During the summer, students are invited to deepen their experience through the Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin Next Generation Artist Program where they take part in an intensive week of advanced training. This one of a kind opportunity includes private voice lessons, coaching, and hands-on involvement in the productions of the summer opera alongside emerging professional artists—offering a meaningful glimpse into a career in opera.
In addition, participants engage with the community through the Opera Through the Generations program, sharing their talents with residents of local senior living facilities. These performances not only enrich the community but also provide students with valuable performance experience. Residents are also invited to attend the full concerts, fostering connection through the shared joy of music at no cost to them.
