Since 1978, Pittsburgh Festival Opera has served the needs of a distinct market of music drama audiences in the greater Pittsburgh region. By presenting high-quality productions of music drama, we strive to work at the forefront of the genre. In its 40-year history, Pittsburgh Festival Opera has presented more than twenty-eight Pittsburgh premieres, many of them American operas that would not have been produced by other companies in the region. Only with your support can we continue to produce high quality opera and offer tickets at an affordable price.

Opera, the most exhilarating of art forms, is also the most expensive to produce; it combines highly trained singers, chorus, a full orchestra, dancers, and elaborate sets and costumes. Ticket revenues, however, cover only about a third of the production costs. We rely on donations from patrons like you to meet the remaining cost of presenting opera. Your tax-deductible contribution allows us to stage opera of the highest quality, to provide education and outreach programs to the community at large, and provide Pittsburgh with a summer festival of breath-taking live performances.

An opera begins long before the curtain goes up and ends long after it has come down. It starts in my imagination, it becomes my life, and it stays part of my life long after I've left the opera house.
Maria Callas
